The Institute of Hygiene is a Lithuanian budgetary institution under the Ministry of Health, which carries out state functions in the different public health areas. It was established on 17 May 1808 in Vilnius. Currently the Institute of Hygiene consists of three specialised centres:
Health Information Centre manages public health registers and is responsible for monitoring of Lithuanian population health, health care activities and resources.
Public Health Technology Centre carries out research on public health inequalities, performs technology assessment of health prevention technologies, develops and initiates evidence based public health interventions mainly in the fields of public health human resources and antimicrobial resistance.
Occupational Health Centre carries out research in the fields of work related factors, their relation with employees’ physical and mental health and wellbeing as well as develops and initiates occupational health and health promotion activities.
